Starting with the 8th of November 2016 Lucian Vărșăndan is back in charge of the German State Theatre Timisoara (GSTT). The director, aged 41, was suspended from his position of managing the theatre on the 19th of May 2016, following his appointment as Secretary of State within the Ministry of Culture. Following his request, addressed to the Prime Minister on the 3rd of November 2016, his tenure in a public office function ceased.
As Secretary of State he contributed among others to the optimization of regulatory framework on cultural institutions and projects. His projects at the Ministry of Culture included the steps towards the separation of the Bucharest Operetta from the administrative structure of the National Opera Bucharest, the Government adopting a decision on the matter on November 9, 2016, from which a separate legal entity was founded, the National Theatre of Operetta and Musical Theatre "Ion Dacian”.
During his mandate in Bucharest, the GSTT was run by actress Ioana Iacob, as acting director.
